Few Danes have achieved such great fame as Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), who became world famous for his fantastic and captivating adventures. HC Andersen made his debut as a mere 17-year-old and continued writing writing poems, novels and not least the famous fairy tales, which are today read to children all over the world.

One of the most famous fairy tales is Fyrtøjet - the story about the soldier, who takes a magical tinder-box from a which and has to endure many dangers, before ultimately winning the princess and half of the kingdom. This classical fairy tale later went on the become the origin of the very first Danish cartoon in feature film length - a real cultural treasure, which can be seen here at Kino Club.
